Brown Sugar & Bacon Baked Beans
Smoky, sweet, and deeply satisfying—these cast iron baked beans are the perfect side dish for any cookout or cozy dinner. Cooked low and slow in a Signature Series Cast Iron Skillet, every bite is rich with bold flavor.
Ingredients
12 ounces of bacon, diced
1 medium yellow onion, diced
56 ounces of canned pork and beans
3/4 cup of your favorite barbecue sauce
1/2 cup of brown sugar
2 tablespoons of cider or balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon of dijon mustard
Cooking Time:
1 hr 30 min + 10 min resting
Instructions
- If baking in the oven, preheat your oven to 325 degrees. If cooking over a
fire, start your fire and allow it to heat up while you prepare the
ingredients - In a large cast iron skillet, cook 12 ounces of diced bacon until it just
begins to get crispy - Transfer the partially crisp bacon onto a paper towel lined plate and add a
medium diced yellow onion into skillet and cook it in the bacon fat until
softened (4-5 minutes) - Add the beans, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, dijon mustard and
cooked bacon and mix until everything is evenly distributed - Bake in a 325 degree oven for 90 minutes or simmer over an open fire
until thick and syrupy - Transfer the beans off of the heat for about 10 minutes before serving
